Pigneys Wood

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Pigneys Wood shows how young woodland, restored fen and grassland can create a useful birding stop near North Walsham. It sits beside the Dilham canal and joins a section of the Paston Way walking route. Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Great Spotted Woodpecker are established woodland birds here, with Woodcock another species named by NWT. Several paths cross the reserve, allowing a walk through different habitats rather than one fixed viewing point. The older woodland contains an ancient oak and spring bluebells, while newer planting gives the place a more open feel. It is a good option for combining birds with a general wildlife stroll.
