Thursford Wood

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Northeast of Fakenham, beside the A148 · NR21 0BB

Thursford Wood is a small ancient woodland where a circular path passes old oaks and descends towards wetter alder carr beside the River Stiffkey. Spring bluebells, summer ferns and autumn fungi make it appealing beyond birdwatching. Nuthatch and occasional winter Woodcock are named by the current operator guide. NWT’s March 2024 page also highlights spring Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Great Spotted Woodpecker. These birds provide a reason to listen through the branches as well as admire the trees. The scale suits a short, slow woodland stop between Fakenham and the coast, with care needed at the small parking area beside a fast road.
