New Buckenham Common

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

New Buckenham village, south Norfolk · NR16 2AS

New Buckenham Common offers cattle-grazed grassland, scattered scrub and pools beside a south Norfolk village. It is a spring and early-summer choice for listening to songbirds, with Garden Warbler and Blackcap in the thickets and Nightingale listed by NWT. The open common and scrubby margins make a pleasant contrast within a short walk from the village car park. The largest pool usually retains water throughout the year, while orchids and other flowers add interest in early summer. Stay on public paths and give the grazing cattle space. This is a quieter inland outing for visitors who would like birding to be part of a village-based walk.
