Danby Wood
Marston Lane, Norwich
Danby Wood is a small woodland beside Marston Marsh, where the uneven ground records an earlier life as a chalk quarry and mine. Banks, hollows and mature trees make it a useful change of habitat after a riverside walk. The council highlights Jay, while the Friends of Danby Wood identify Chaffinch, Wren, Blackbird and Green Woodpecker among the woodland birds. The main waymarked route and informal paths give several ways to explore. Spring brings woodland flowers beneath the trees, including bluebells and snowdrops. Expect slopes and steps rather than a level circuit through the wood.
