Castle Acre River Nar walks

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Castle Acre · PE32 2XB

Castle Acre gives visitors several public approaches to the River Nar and its surrounding meadows. The river's flowing water, scrub, mature trees and nearby woodland create a varied inland birdwatching walk below the historic village. NarVOS identifies Buzzard, Kestrel, Snipe and summer Cuckoo, alongside broader groups of wildfowl and waders. The parish council describes both short riverside walks and longer routes connecting the Nar Valley Way with the Peddars Way. Begin in the village and walk to the river, keeping parked vehicles away from narrow access points and the ford. Paths can become wet after rain.

Birds and seasons

  • Buzzard — Typically year-round
  • Kestrel — Typically year-round
