Brancaster and Brancaster Staithe · PE31 8AX

Brancaster combines a wide sandy beach, harbour-side saltmarsh and the grassy ground of Branodunum. The variety makes it a useful coastal birding stop, with Skylark in the open grassland and Brent Goose and Oystercatcher among the birds named on the National Trust’s harbour walk. The coast path gives broad views towards the marsh and offshore island. Choose the beach or village walking route according to weather and tide, and keep to public paths around working harbour areas and private land.

Birds and seasons

  • Skylark — Typically year-round
  • Brent Goose — Typically autumn and winter
  • Oystercatcher — Typically year-round
