Short birdwatching visit · Public footpath beside private Barningham Hall estate

Barningham Hall lake public-footpath views

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Matlaske and Barningham Park

Barningham Hall lake and estate are private, but the county club describes limited views from an established public footpath near the northern end. This entry covers that path and its views across the wet ground, rather than access to the lake shore, Hall or grounds. The club records Teal and Gadwall in the cooler months, alongside geese and other familiar waterbirds. It is a modest walking stop for visitors comfortable with restricted views through trees and a rural path through livestock fields. Respect the marked route and do not enter private land to improve a view.

Birds and seasons

  • Teal — Typically August–April
  • Gadwall — Typically October–April
  • Canada Goose — Typically October–May
  • Greylag Goose — Typically year-round

Paths
Only the public footpath is included. The guide describes a stile, livestock fields and a section of woodland; keep to the marked right of way and follow livestock notices.
Parking
The county guide identifies roadside verge space at the Dairy Farm entrance. Use only an available safe space and do not block the farm entrance or road.

Getting there: Arrive at the documented roadside starting point and walk the public footpath; no visitor access to the private lake or estate is implied.
