Alderfen Broad and Marshes

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Near Hoveton, Norfolk Broads · NR12 8BP

Alderfen offers a short Broadland walk through wet woodland and fen, with a small screen overlooking open water. It suits a visitor who wants to listen for birds as well as scan a broad: Cetti’s Warbler calls throughout the year, while Reed and Sedge Warblers bring extra song in summer. In winter, look through the alder canopy for Siskins and Lesser Redpolls feeding among the cones. The mown circuit and public footpath give different woodland and wetland views within a modest area. Spring and summer also bring the chance of Swallowtail butterflies and Norfolk Hawker dragonflies alongside the birdwatching.
