Birdwatching in Pembrokeshire

By Does Your Duck Quack · Planning updated 27 October 2026

Pembrokeshire combines separately arranged island visits to Skomer, Ramsey and Skokholm with a mainland wetland day at Teifi Marshes. Skomer’s maritime grassland and cliffs are associated with Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills, with the familiar Puffin season normally centred on mid-April to July. Ramsey provides another island landscape of cliffs, coastal heath and shallow pools, with seabirds in spring and seals adding late-summer and autumn interest. Skokholm brings a different island-stay and migration setting; its boat and access arrangements are not interchangeable with either Skomer or Ramsey. Teifi Marshes offers the mainland contrast, joining freshwater marsh, reedbed, tidal mudbank and wet woodland, with Kingfisher, Teal and Wigeon among its birds. Its winter wildfowl and starling interest differs from spring and summer warbler watching. The islands’ booked arrivals determine the shape of those days, while Teifi has its own public entrance and route. A mainland base should therefore be chosen around the confirmed island departure or the specific wetland visit, not around the county name alone.
