West Newton and River Babingley

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

West Newton

The middle River Babingley near West Newton gives a varied countryside walk through farmland, hedgerows, woodland patches and reedbed. NarVOS describes a route starting south of the watermill and following the river corridor towards the A149. Grey Wagtail, Shelduck, Grey Partridge and Marsh Harrier are listed throughout the year, while Kingfisher is an occasional sighting. The mixture of flowing water and open grazing provides several different habitats to watch during one outing, using the established public route through working countryside. Our suggested approach is to pause where the public route overlooks contrasting habitats.
