Thorpe Marshes

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Thorpe St Andrew, eastern Norwich · NR7 0QA

Thorpe Marshes brings Broadland habitats close to Norwich, with marsh, dykes, scrub and the former gravel pit of Saint Andrew’s Broad beside the River Yare. Winter ducks include Gadwall, Tufted Duck and Pochard, while summer brings Great Crested Grebe, Common Tern and feeding hirundines. Cetti’s Warbler is present throughout the year. The firm route can become muddy, but it gives a useful circular walk with both open water and smaller wetland edges to scan. Arrive on foot over the railway footbridge at the end of Whitlingham Lane in Thorpe St Andrew; this is a different approach from Whitlingham Country Park at Trowse.
