Birchwood, Warrington

Risley Moss preserves peat bog and woodland within Birchwood, with signed public trails and bird hides for a short reserve visit. The council’s wildlife trail identifies Willow Tit, Tawny Owl and Great Spotted Woodpecker among species found on the reserve. Public viewing is from the managed paths and hides rather than an invitation to walk across the open mossland. A visitor centre adds a useful starting point for route information. Opening is restricted: the reserve facilities and parking are closed on Fridays and on the named Christmas and New Year holidays, so plan arrival around the council’s published hours.
