Astley Road, Chat Moss, Salford

Cadishead and Little Woolden Moss form one Wildlife Trust reserve on former peat workings now being restored as lowland raised bog. The Trust names Hobby in summer, Merlin in autumn and Short-eared Owl among the birds seen here. A visit depends on the permitted paths: public access follows the periphery of Little Woolden Moss and a permissive route through Cadishead Moss from Astley Road. Fragile ground and numerous hazards make wandering away from those routes inappropriate. Cadishead Moss and Little Woolden Moss are parts of the same reserve, with visitor access defined by the permitted routes through and around them.

Getting there: Reach the published Astley Road arrival with care because the approach road is uneven. Follow the permitted reserve paths from there and check local access notices. The operator marker is a reserve location rather than a surveyed parking bay.
