River Wissey at Hilborough

By Does Your Duck Quack · Reviewed 20 October 2026

Hilborough

The River Wissey at Hilborough runs past wet meadows and mature woodland near a ford. Reeds and other wetland vegetation add variety to a compact riverside birdwatching stop. NarVOS names Grey Wagtail, Grey Heron, Kingfisher and both Green and Great Spotted Woodpecker, making the river and adjoining trees worth watching. Some surrounding ground is a restricted military training area: enjoy the view from the public arrival area and keep out of signed land. The narrow lane also serves working farms. Binoculars are useful for checking birds moving between the trees and the water.
