Mort Lane, near Astley and Tyldesley

Cutacre Nature Reserve is the Wildlife Trust’s grazed meadow and wetland site off Mort Lane, with ponds and open ground supporting a varied bird list. Lapwing, Oystercatcher and Redshank are named by the Trust among its breeding waders. This entry covers the nature reserve, rather than the separate Cutacre Country Park across the railway. Public visits must stay on the rights of way: the Trust requires permission for access elsewhere for research. The restricted route is still a useful way to view the reserve without treating conservation grazing fields as open recreational space.
