Public bridleway approach north of Ailsworth
Castor Hanglands brings woodland, grassland, scrub and wet areas together north of Ailsworth. Langdyke Countryside Trust, which supports management of the reserve, names Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Tawny Owl among its woodland birds. Old grazing areas and ponds add other wildlife interest. Public bridleways provide established approaches, including a connection with Southey Wood parking. Paths can be muddy or uneven, and occasional shooting closures override ordinary access. Choose the signed public route rather than entering through woodland boundaries or grazing fields.
