Black Bourn Valley shows how former arable fields can develop into scrub, grassland and wetland close to the river. Suffolk Wildlife Trust describes Blackcap in summer and Redwing and Fieldfare flocks in winter. The interest is in watching a changing landscape rather than expecting a fixed collection of birds on every visit. The free entrance car park makes it a practical inland stop between Norton and Thurston. Give the paths time: a quiet pause beside the scrub can be as useful as trying to cover every part of the reserve.
