Short birdwatching visit · Aylmerton Pond Project
Aylmerton Pond Project
Aylmerton
Aylmerton’s village pond is a former carters’ pond restored with help from local volunteers. The surviving public boardwalk, dipping platform and reedbed provide a compact waterside stop away from the coast. The local bird club records Mallard on most visits and Moorhen, Gadwall and Chiffchaff fairly regularly. A short pause here can therefore combine watching waterfowl with listening around the vegetation. Access has changed: the former circular permissive path is no longer complete because its closing section is fenced within a campsite. Keep the visit to the remaining public features rather than expecting a circuit around the water.
Birds and seasons
- Mallard — Typically all year
- Moorhen — Typically all year
- Gadwall — Typically autumn to spring

- Paths
- The boardwalk and dipping platform remain public. The former circular permissive route is interrupted by a fence within the campsite; do not enter that enclosed section.
Getting there: Take a Sanders village bus to Aylmerton, The Street, then approach the pond on foot; check the current return timetable.
