Thwaite Common
Erpingham
Thwaite Common is a wet County Wildlife Site north of Erpingham, with grassland, fen, scrub and ponds. The local bird club recommends it for summer birds and dragonflies and describes a wider range of wildlife, including orchids and bats. Its records include Snipe, Grey Heron, Moorhen and Jay, giving a visitor reasons to watch both the wet ground and the scrub. The Friends organise surveys and a regular bird count. This is a place to approach on foot, since the minor road has no suitable parking. Expect wet ground in any season and bring wellingtons.
