Cwm, Blaenau Gwent

Silent Valley combines ancient beech woodland, a tumbling stream and higher open slopes above Cwm. The Trust’s reserve profile describes winter raven watching, while its site-specific Spotlight article names red kite and buzzard over the entrance meadow and dipper along the Nant Merddog. That stream and the varied woodland give the visit more than a scenic walking purpose. Two trails and a public footpath explore the reserve, climbing from the valley floor towards former industrial ground. Access begins at the Cendl Terrace car park and continues along a rough track. Expect narrow steep paths, slippery sections and flights of steps, rather than an easy surfaced woodland loop.
