Near Llanvihangel Crucorney, Monmouthshire

Strawberry Cottage Wood offers a small woodland birding visit reached across the River Honddu near Llanvihangel Crucorney. Mature oak and ash rise above a hazel understorey, and the Trust names pied flycatcher, blackcap and redstart in its spring account. The river crossing provides a different edge to the woodland visit, with kingfisher and dipper also described by the operator. The public approach starts at a roadside lay-by, continues across a footbridge and then crosses a field to the wood. Inside, tracks and a public footpath lead through the trees. Expect steep sections, steps and muddy paths rather than an easy surfaced circuit.
