Lunt Road, Thornton, Sefton

Lunt Meadows is a wetland birdwatching reserve beside the River Alt, with pools, reedbeds and wet grassland created on former arable fields. The Trust names Lapwing and Redshank among its spring and summer waders, while Teal and Shoveler use the wetlands in winter. Start from the Learning Centre car park on Lunt Road and follow the reserve paths to the watching places. Flood storage remains part of the site’s purpose: flood events can close both reserve and car park, so an open gate should never be assumed from a previous visit.
