Burnfoot promontory, southern Fairlie

Fairlie Sands is a shallow tidal bay where the Fairlie Glen burn reaches the Clyde. The county bird club identifies it as a winter Greenshank site and names Dipper and Grey Wagtail at the burn mouths near the bay and picnic place. Concentrate a visit on the open bay from Burnfoot and the public coastal approach. The separate industrial lagoon hide has permission and membership conditions in the older guide, so it is not part of the public visit described here. Fairlie station provides a nearby rail approach to the shore.
