Wrabness Road, Wrabness · CO12 5NH
Copperas Wood is an ancient woodland stop beside the Stour Estuary, with circular paths through a landscape recovering from storm damage. Essex Wildlife Trust lists Green, Great Spotted and Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers among its birds. These are source-supported possibilities rather than a promise of three species on one walk. Coppicing and natural regrowth create varied woodland structure, while the spring flowers add interest at ground level. Choose a short section of the public path network and listen patiently before moving on. The reserve has very little entrance parking, with an alternative approach through nearby RSPB Stour Wood.
