East Kilbride (2 mi / 3.2 km)

Cathkin Marsh offers a wetland contrast to the surrounding Glasgow and East Kilbride area. Its fen and marshy grassland support Snipe, Water Rail and Reed Bunting, all named by the Trust as birds that can be watched from the hide. The sheltered viewpoint gives the visit a clear focus without needing to enter the marsh. Wildflowers, butterflies and dragonflies provide additional interest when conditions suit them. The soft ground is an important practical constraint, especially in winter: keep to the access route and use the hide instead of testing the waterlogged grassland.
