Swell Wood is an ancient woodland reserve above the Somerset Levels, with older oaks, hazel and a meadow giving different habitats along a short outing. Grey Heron and Little Egret are promoted by the operator, while Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker provide woodland interest through the year. The public hide is the managed place for watching the treetops without approaching wildlife. The Woodland Trail also gives a view towards West Sedgemoor. Scarp Trail is currently closed, so select an open route and leave time for the uneven sections of the wider path network.

- The public hide has level entry and is close to the car park.

- The Woodland Trail and meadow route remain alternatives to the closed Scarp Trail.

- No reserve toilets; the operator identifies public facilities in Langport.

- The small car park has one Blue Badge bay, a firm main surface and a height barrier.
- Dogs
- Only assistance dogs may use the Woodland Trail, meadow route and hide; the dog-permitted Scarp Trail is closed.
- Accessibility
- The hide approach and picnic section are level; longer trails have steep and muddy sections.
Getting there: Turn off the A378 between Fivehead and Curry Rivel, following the brown reserve signs.
