Upwood village, near Ramsey

Upwood Meadows is a National Nature Reserve of traditional grassland, old hedges and dew ponds near Ramsey. Blackcap and Whitethroat are named in the Wildlife Trust's account of its breeding birds, with Fieldfare and Redwing described as winter visitors. Wildflowers are a main attraction in spring and summer. Old ridge-and-furrow and anthills produce varied ground conditions, and the fields can be muddy or flooded after wet weather. Grazing helps maintain the meadows; keep to the permitted routes and follow current livestock signs.
