Crescent Wood Road and Cox’s Walk, Dulwich, Southwark
Sydenham Hill Wood offers a woodland birdwatching visit within a surviving fragment of the Great North Wood. Firecrest, Nuthatch and Kestrel appear in the Trust’s autumn suggestions, while mature trees and the old railway cutting make the setting distinctive. Follow the public paths from Crescent Wood Road or Cox’s Walk and take time to listen around the tree canopy. Several entrances and routes have steps or kissing gates, so choose the approach before setting out. The closed railway tunnel is a bat roost and should be left undisturbed.
