Corsock (4 mi / 6.4 km)

Knowetop Lochs has two small upland waters separated by birch woodland, with reeds, bog, willow scrub and heath adding variety around them. The Trust’s wildlife selection includes Snipe, Reed Bunting and Bullfinch. Unsurfaced paths and boardwalks make this a contained way to sample a diverse Galloway wetland without crossing its softer ground. Keep the walk on those maintained routes: the operator asks visitors to protect ground-nesting birds and notes the presence of adders. Its small roadside parking provision also makes a little planning useful before stopping beside the A712.
