Priory Lane, Frensham · GU10 3BT

Frensham Little Pond combines open water, reed edges, woodland and heath in a public National Trust landscape. The operator names Great Crested Grebe, Reed Bunting and Sedge Warbler among its birds. Watching from the designated pond-side paths offers a different experience from scanning the surrounding heath. There is a public viewing platform near Tern Café, with toilets available during opening hours. Choose a route that suits sandy ground and the time you want to spend listening. Swimming and watercraft are prohibited, and dogs must stay out of the pond. Use the allocated car parks rather than parking on Priory Lane.

When to go and where to look

Summer is the National Trust’s season for Nightjar interest around Frensham Little Pond, while its official family walk also names Firecrest in the woodland. Follow the marked route from the Priory Lane car park through the pond, woodland and ridge habitats, using the established paths and viewpoints. The walk includes slopes and a boardwalk, so choose the route that suits your mobility and check current access information before setting out. Keep dogs on leads during the Trust’s March-to-September restriction. Do not leave the paths to search for birds, and avoid approaching any nest or calling location. Check opening times when planning an evening visit.
