Castle Ward Bay, near Strangford

Castle Ward's loughside route offers a defined walk beside Castle Ward Bay, combining sheltered shore views with woodland and estate paths. The National Trust specifically names Redshank in autumn and winter and Oystercatcher, Dunlin, Curlew and Knot in winter at this bay. These exact-site records provide a clear reason for a waterbird visit without borrowing species from elsewhere on Strangford Lough. The published circular route starts at the old farmyard and follows the waterfront before returning through woodland and the estate. Check current admission and grounds-opening arrangements before making the estate the basis of a visit.
