Public riverside-path arrival near Bathurst Basin and Coronation Road
The Avon New Cut is a city-centre tidal wildlife corridor with public paths along its banks. The council’s 2014–19 management plan lists Grey Wagtail, Mallard and Moorhen, and the Friends group’s 2025 survey records all three along its monitored section. Choose a short bank-side watch from the public paths rather than trying to reach the water or private fenced land. This is one combined New Cut destination, distinct from the much farther downstream Lamplighter’s Marsh reserve. Tides change the water and exposed margins, while current works or access notices may affect which bank makes the better short walk.
