Birdwatching in Hampshire

By Does Your Duck Quack · Planning updated 27 October 2026

Hampshire’s birdwatching choices include Solent grazing marshes and lagoons, freshwater lakes near Ringwood, and smaller heathland and chalk-grassland outings. Titchfield Haven combines reedbeds, freshwater scrapes and river views, with Avocet and other wetland birds among its targets. Lymington–Keyhaven offers coastal lagoons, saltmarsh and grazing marsh; Farlington adds harbour mudflats and winter Brent Geese, with high-tide waders giving another reason to choose the timing carefully. Blashford Lakes provides a freshwater contrast, joining gravel-pit lakes, woodland and wetland margins for winter ducks and spring song. Langstone Harbour has public-shore approaches and lagoon views, including a route from the Hayling Billy walking and cycling trail. Hazeley Heath is a different northern Hampshire outing for Woodlark and Tree Pipit, reached on foot from Hartley Wintney. Martin Down adds chalk grassland and scrub, with separate A354 and Sillens Lane arrivals. The coast, Ringwood lakes and inland heath should be compared as distinct destinations, rather than as a single short circuit across the county.
