Reserve car park behind the paper mill, Meadowhead Road, Irvine

Shewalton Wood is a substantial Wildlife Trust reserve in an industrial setting south of Irvine, with woodland, wetland and open grassland along an established circuit. The county bird club’s precise Shewalton Woods section names Coal Tit, Goldcrest and Siskin in the birch woodland, with different birds using the pond margins and open mossland. Start at the reserve car park behind the paper mill and follow the made paths. This entry covers the wood itself, without adding nearby Trocol Pond, Meadowhead Pit or other Irvine reserves to its bird list.
