Rostrevor, beside Kilbroney Park
Rostrevor Oakwood is a mature oak reserve on a steep slope overlooking Carlingford Lough. DAERA describes this woodland type as rare in Northern Ireland and names Blackcap, Willow Warbler and Chiffchaff among the birds visitors can hear, with Jay and Buzzard also present. The main reserve trail gives a defined woodland visit beside the wider facilities of Kilbroney Park. April to September is the operator's suggested period for exploring its birds and other wildlife. Stay on the main trail so the undergrowth and young trees that will replace the present oaks remain undisturbed.
