Therfield Road, near Royston
Fox Covert is a small beechwood offering a woodland birding stop within the wider Therfield Heath landscape. The Wildlife Trust’s reserve highlights name Sparrowhawk in spring, Willow Warbler in summer and Treecreeper in winter. Woodland paths and the connections into the surrounding walking network make it a useful short visit when a longer heathland outing is planned. The watching interest here is the reserve’s own trees and woodland edge; keep to its signposted trail and avoid treating neighbouring land as unrestricted access. Some paths are steep, so choose the length of walk to suit conditions.
