Back Lane, Bolton-on-Swale, near Richmond and Catterick
Bolton-on-Swale Lake offers a settled watch over a former sand-and-gravel quarry managed for wetland birds. Wigeon, Goldeneye and Pochard join other ducks here in winter, while islands and grassland support a different breeding-season view. The Trust’s public arrival is on Back Lane, where the reserve entrance lies across the lane from its car park. A resurfaced path leads towards the watching facilities. Spend the visit at those public lake views rather than crossing grazed grassland or approaching the islands. Dogs are not permitted, and wheelchair users may need assistance on the approach.
