Georgia, near Penzance

Baker's Pit is a heathland reserve above Nancledra, where old clay workings have left areas of open water among pasture and scrub. Cornwall Wildlife Trust names summer Whitethroats and winter Merlin and Peregrine, alongside Stonechat and Linnet. A public circular trail offers a manageable way to explore the habitat mosaic without treating the flooded workings as a recreation lake. The former mining landscape needs care, and swimming is prohibited because of underwater hazards. The reserve is open at all times; the operator recommends April to August for a general visit.
